Social Media Examiner shared some great tips for promoting your Facebook fan page. The first step is creating one.

Facebook Fan PageIt’s a valuable tool to have because it targets so many different audiences, is an easy place to share information and is constantly accessible and amenable to updates. Here are some of my favorites:

  1. Put your fan page URL in your email signature- For every business email you send out, you could be making one new fan
  2. Write a blog post about your new fan page- Double whammy. Create traffic for both your blog and your fan page if you share your blog’s link on the fan page.
  3. Tag other well-trafficked Websites in your posts- Great way to make connections. Websites and bloggers appreciate you sending traffic their way and may do the same for you in the future.
  4. Ask your Twitter followers to follow your fan page- The drawback to Twitter is the character limit. Use it as a teaser to herd followers to your fan page. If your content on Twitter is engaging and interesting, your fans will want more of it on other sites.
  5. Invest in Facebook ads- People forget that you can create your own budget on Facebook ads. You don’t have to spend a million dollars (unless you want to) and you can target your ads towards different audiences and demographics.
  6. Put a fan widget on your blog or Website- Social Media Examiner points out that your Website is your home base and a great way to send traffic out. Klout’s got a great example of a widget. Make it simple and accessible and your fan base should increase.
  7. Add a “like” box- Make sure you set the options to include Face Pile. This way your readers will know which of their friends already like the page. Peer pressure at its finest.
  8. Invite all your friends- Kind of a last resort. You don’t want to spam them. Better to reach out friends that you know are influencers or are interested in your product or service. However, you’d be surprised how many Facebook users click yes to everything. It can’t hurt, but it may not help as much as you think.
  9. Use targeted keywords in Google AdWords- It’s like Facebook ads x 10. Use a keywords based ad and instead of directing viewers to your site, direct them to your fan site.
  10. Ask fans to post a link- Leverage your existing audience. Don’t overuse this tip, they’re fans for a reason. They hopefully support you and want to help out.
